Fehr Graham and the Decatur Park District invited residents and stakeholders to a public meeting March 23 to discuss and provide input on new amenities at Garfield Park. Fehr Graham Landscape Architect Mark Decker will take the feedback and incorporate it into his designs for Garfield Park.
This was the first of many meetings about Garfield Park, which Park District Executive Director Clay Gerhard described as "disjointed." Plans for the park, which is along Grand Avenue between Van Dyke Street and Oakland Avenue, focus on making it more engaging for children and accommodating to older adults. The timing works well because a developer is converting the nearby former Garfield School building into an apartment complex.
