Despite the initial complexity for drivers, roundabouts have gained popularity because of their effectiveness in enhancing traffic flow and safety. Roundabouts, which gained popularity in Europe and Australia, have become increasingly prevalent in the U.S. over the last two decades. Roundabout suitability hinges on traffic volume, land availability and accident data analysis. Although not universally adaptable, roundabouts offer municipalities a cost-effective means to reduce accidents, delay and maintenance.
