Matt came to Fehr Graham in 2014 to manage civil and structural engineering projects at the firm’s Champaign, Illinois, office and became a Principal five years later. Matt uses his keen eye and innovative mind to design and construct successful water and wastewater treatment plants for the firm’s clients. When he’s not helping clients, Matt is involved in many national engineering organizations and local councils in his hometown of Champaign.

Matt is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, Colorado, Texas and Louisiana as well as a Licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois. Matt and his wife, Abby, live in Champaign with their five children.

IN MATT’S OWN WORDS …

How would you describe what you do to someone unfamiliar with your job?

I help communities produce quality drinking water, manage their wastewater and keep surrounding water sources clean.

What do you like most about working at Fehr Graham?

I love quoting lines from movies and someone actually gets it! We work in such a technical business that it’s nice to be able to have fun at work.

Tell us about your professional accomplishments.

In 2016, I was named a Civil Engineering Rising Star in Civil + Structural Engineer Magazine, and I was given the Young Alumnus Award in 2017 from the University of Illinois Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association.

Who are you outside work?

With five kids I’m definitely dear old dad, but barbequing and smoking meat is my passion. Having been born in Champaign and attending the University of Illinois, I am a huge Illini fan and I can be found tailgating at almost every football game.

How would your co-workers and clients describe you?

Honest. I tell the truth and shoot straight, no matter if it’s popular or not.

What do you enjoy about helping clients and the communities in which they work and live?

I like the diversity of the communities I serve. I could be facing the same problem in several communities, but everyone’s unique assets make it a different experience each time.
