Reduce blight with Iowa Department of Nautrual Resources grant

Eyesore in your town? DNR grants available to reduce blight in small Iowa communities.

Small rural communities and counties in Iowa can take advantage of grant money to help renovate or demolish abandoned commercial and public buildings. To qualify for the Derelict Building Grant Program through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, or DNR, a community or county must have 5,000 or fewer residents and have neglected commercial or public structures that have been vacant for at least six months.

Since its inception in 2011, the program’s focus is to recycle and reuse building materials and eliminate hazards related to the empty structures. The program, which offers seven assistance grants, has benefited 115 communities and saved more than $1.5 million in landfill disposal costs.

The goal? Help improve the attractiveness and appearance of communities and counties. Not sure if you qualify? Call us and we will be happy to discuss the details.

The team at Fehr Graham has helped many clients reap the rewards of this important program.

Now is the time to apply to the Iowa DNR for grant funding. The deadline to submit is Feb. 20. Fehr Graham’s team of environmental and grant writing experts can help.
